SWEMS hosting Opioid Responder Training

We are working in partnership with the Steuben Prevention Coalition to offer an Opioid Responder Training session on Thursday, August 4th at 3 PM.

The session will be hosted virtually and we will open up our meeting room for any member of the community who wishes to take this 30 minute training session but has limited Internet access.

Opioid overdoses have been in the news with Heroin and Fentanyl being the major reported causes of overdoses, but it is also possible to accidentally overdose on prescription opioids. An opioid overdose can cause someone to stop breathing, so Narcan training will save lives!

Chief Grambs stated, “We have seen a steady amount of Opioid calls, many with ineffective breathing. Having Law Enforcement be able to give Narcan has been a huge help in saving lives, but getting civilians carrying Narcan and trained in Narcan administration will save even more lives. Permanent brain damage begins after 4 minutes of loss of Oxygen. EMS and Police often take more time than that to get to an address and will never be faster than a family member or friend who is already on scene when you call 911.”

For anyone who wants to dial in and take the class virtually, here are the details:
